10 tips for the more Organized home!

Daily Home Organization Tips

10 Tips I use DAILY to keep a more organized home!

1) The first thing I do in the morning (after going to the bathroom and brushing my teeth) is make my bed. There's just something awesome about how clean my bedroom looks by just making my bed. I just wish I could get my 10 year old to do the same.

2) Both my husband and I lay out our clothes the night before to help speed the morning along. Not to mention, he gets up first so having the light turned on while I am sleeping may make me a little angry. I lay mine out because...I am what my daughter calls a neat freak.

3) If you are anything like me as a women, my mind is still racing at night about stuff and I find myself saying, "Oh , I don't want to forget...". So my best piece of advice for you if this sounds familiar is to keep a little notepad and pen by the bed. Before I did this, my husband used to get sooo mad because I would keep getting up to write notes to myself.

4) After work, the first thing I do is look over the mail. I find that it helps me transition from work to home, but also then it doesn't have a chance to pile up on me. I filter my mail and get rid of all the "junk" first and then separate by bills and things I may need to act on. I put it in it's proper place and can start my evening.

5) I also try to plan dinner ahead, sometimes the day before or even in the morning. I do this for two reasons: one so if I need to pick anything up on my way home from work, I can and two so I am not standing at the fridge trying to come up with something. You may also find that standing at the fridge last minute can bite you too, because if you planned ahead and needed one little ingredient you could have picked it up after work.

6) In my house, there are only 3 of us, but during the week, I try to go laundry every other day. I do this for one to keep up on it, but also I feel better about goofing off on the weekend if I don't have laundry hanging over my head.

7) For dinner, we all try to pitch in and clean up when we're finished. If there are leftovers, we put them in containers and in the fridge, rinse the dishes, and wipe the counters. Dishes usually get loaded in the dishwasher about every two-three days. Hey, not my choice, that's my daughters chore and I can't seem to instill in her that if you unload the clean when they are done, we can ALL load as the dishes become dirty.

8) Homework time! In our house, homework is very important, but also dreaded. We have managed to get her to come home from school and have a snack and get started on it right away! That seems to work very well. That way it's not hanging over her head and the information from the day may still be fresh in her mind.

9) Each night, I try to pick up at least one room of the house. Most of the time, it's the living room because that seems to be where we hang out the most. This is also where the laundry get folded so usually that needs to be put away.

10) Lastly, I usually have one or two days a week where I run errands. I have found that making a list helps me a ton! With gas prices so high, I like to try to group my stops too so I am not jotting all around town. I also can get side tracked, so that list helps me keep note of what I have left to do!

I hope you find these tips both helpful and maybe even funny....
