Many sellers offer David Yurman designer jewelry at below retail prices. Because of the popularity of and the demand for Yurman jewelry, Ebay sellers have cropped up who sell fake David Yurman and explicitly describe it as 'authentic.' There are many authentic Yurman pieces on Ebay, so for the informed consumer, there are ways to buy Yurman without getting fakes.
-
KNOW YOUR PIECES, and check out the David Yurman website for pricing information so you don't get scammed!
-
Ask seller where he/she got a piece. If he says that he got it from a "reputable dealer," don't believe it! David Yurman
-
See webwite 'chinahotsell' for an idea of the fakes being sold on Ebay. Dishonest sellers buy pieces from China and use these same pictures in their Ebay listings, so be sure to check out the pictures on 'chinahotsell' and beware of any listings that use the same pictures!
-
Recent knockoffs include split shank Albion rings with pave diamonds, deco rings, Renaissance link bracelets and Copolla pearl necklaces.
A few things to watch out for:
-
Private Bidders/User ID kept private/private feedback - this is a good indication of FAKES!
-
Certificates of Authenticity- Yurman pieces purchased in Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and David Yurman stores do not always come with COAs. COAs are often manufactured by companies in China and sold along with counterfeit pieces. Please beware that many fakes are sold with fake COAs.
-
Sellers who list multiples of the same items- this is a very good sign that the items for sale are fake.
-
Sellers with no feedback
-
When Ebay is flooded with listings of a certain piece, it is most likely FAKE.
-
Buy It Now prices that seem too good to be true.
-
Pieces that are brand new. Reputable jewelry stores, estate dealers and private sellers usually get ahold of previously owned pieces that are at least gently used.
-
Non-English-speaking sellers are often partnered with counterfeiters in China.
Many dealers of counterfeit DY have taken precautions to appear legitimate. The following do NOT necessarily indicate genuine David Yurman.
-
"Appropriate" DY markings. Counterfeiters add the D.Y., 925, 585 and 750 markings to their pieces.
-
"Guarantees" of Authenticity, and return policies. These sellers assume that a lot of buyers won't know a fake or won't go through the hassle of returns.
-
Certificates of Authenticity (see above).
