CARTIER FAKE WATCHES, How to spot them
CARTIER WATCHES
A store, that I wont name in Hollywood CA, was found to have 3 fake Cartier watches for sale. They where being sold as used and all over $7500 each. The experienced store staff could not tell the difference. The fakes that where made in China are the best replicas ever found before. However if you open the watch, a basic cheap quartz movement is inside. They are Gold plated and are very well made. So how can you tell?
Insist on opening the watch, Cartier watches have Cartier engraved on the movements, and are of high quality. The outside of the watch is so well made, that even if you put a genuine watch against these, you cant tell, apart from the fact the Fake is slightly lighter in weight.. This is a genuine Cartier, this picture shows the cartire name just visible on the gold section dial. As China gets even more clever, with high quality Fakes, It will soon be almost impossible to tell them apart. Some companies are now importing Fake Cartier Pasha watches from China, faster than the originals are coming in from Switzerland. The fakes are Really good and sell online as fakes for $200, sadly the low life of the world try to pass them off as the real thing, So far they are getting away with it. However if you INSIST on opening the watch, you will see Cartier engraved on the movements. Some stores will inform you that they cant open them as it will invalidate the waterproof warranty. If they are a Genuine dealer, they are trained and certified to do this. If they refuse, take your money and buy elsewhere.
1) Insist on seeing the movement
2) Look at the paperwork and certifiacte, (These can be fake as well)
3) Inform the seller you are going to get the watch authenticated by a Cartier dealer. In form them, If its a fake you will be coming back for a full refund. If you pay vai credit card. you can stop payment and let them argue it out with the Credit card company. It is illegal to sell fake or replica watches.
4) Arm yourself with the book below, I would never buy a watch over $300 without it.
Cartier make great watches, there is no easy way to spot them, You could be parting with alot of money, do your homework.
Yes some fakes now have cartier inscribed, This is Only the very high end models, $6000 .
Only buy from a store, where you can ask to open the watch, Sorry E-bay sellers, but unless you can show pictures of the inside of your watches, I recommend buyers keep away. However if you do get tempted to buy from e-bay, instruct the seller you will be payong with Pay Pal only and when It arrives you will be taking it to a watch store to get it opened. If it turns out to be a fake, you will require a full refund, failure to do this and you will report it to pay pal with confirmation from watch store. Pay Pal will refund you. You must do this within 45 days of purchase. Hiwever only up to a max of $2000.
PLEASE BEWARE OF ITEMS SOLD ON E-BAY FROM CHINA.
You will see great items listed, at Very low prices. Top mens watches Rolex, Philip Stein, Cartier Watches, Silver Dollar Morgan coins, Stamps, Cell Phones, Ipods, USB Flash drives, Dyson vacuum Cleaners, Many designer clothes, Louis Vuitton Handbags, Lacoste, Omega, Breitling, Oakley, Levi Jeans, Gold and Silver jewelry, fountain pens, antiques and many collectable items. The items go on and on. However if the sellers location is China,... BEWARE.
The seller will normally have 2 -5 positive feedback. Check this out, The feedback he has got is probably from his friend next door or even himself, they leave it for each other, This in itself is illegal, Its known as SHILL BIDDING.
They normally just paste a picture, and give you the details, It looks a great deal. Many will sell with direct credit card, some take pay pal and some will only take international wire transfer. Once you have sent your money, Say goodbye to it.
Some buyers have been getting the goods they paid for, only to find out they are fake or replicas. China has a Huge market in rip off DVD's and CD's. they will advertise them as Imported, or international Import. This way they do not even have to copy the cover exact.
Take a look at DVD's sold. Think about. Do you really think you can buy a genuine U.S made film. Brand new DVD such as Spiderman 2 mission impossible 3 for $6.99 and $3.99 shipping. This then has to come via airmail all the way from China.!!
The worst are the Morgan Silver Dollars. The best prices are for the Dollars with CC. This means they where minted in Carlson City. These are rare and all go for over $200 minium. China sells these for approx $20 and they are in Mint condition. They are not going to sell you Aluminum foil covered chocolate Candy coins, but brass silver plated counterfeits. They are producing these in the thousands. It was safe as long as you only bought your coins here in the U.S. But now as unsuspecting buyers buy coins from China, the buyers then try to get some of their money back and sell it on e-bay themselves. The Government in China is only paying lip service to the rest of the world, and says its trying to stop all fake, counterfeit and bootleg goods, but as long as they can get thier greedy little hands on our U.S Dollars, British Pounds and the Euro, they dont care.
What if it says made in China?
It is possible to buy an item that you would expect to be made here in the U.S to be made in China. It depends on the item, Genuine Leather COACH bags may have 'Made in China' on the tag or even sewn into the COACH patch inside. They are now being made in China. Its a shame we have to have our best Leather items made in China. PRADA only make items in Italy, Its a shame a great U.S company has had to go to China to get its products produced.
How to avoid buying fakes?
I would recommend that you buy a copy of A MOVEMENT IN TIME with BREITLING & ROLEX AN UNAUTHORIZED HISTORY by MARK A COOPER. This is the best book out there on how to spot Fakes & replicas, and has alot about buying watches on eBay. It does not just cover Breitling & Rolex watches, but all the worlds top watches, Including Cartier. I would never buy a watch without it, it shows you what to look for in fakes and replicas, along with the history of Cartier and others. For $21 is well woth it. I dont sell the book, but others do sell it here on ebay, here is the ebay search link eBay; Books on how to spot fake Cartier watches
If I can help just 1 person with this, and not get burnt like I did, I am happy.
