Counterfeit Frontline products could pose a serious health risk for your pet. The most common counterfeit products are those that were manufactured for use outside the US, and repackaged to appear like the US product.
Why should that concern you? The product may not have been packaged in the correct dosage container--you could double dose your dog or cat or not give it enough product to be effective. It may not be the same pesticide "formula" as that deemed safe in the US.
The counterfeiters have become "smarter" with time. They may place an appropriate EPA number on the box, since this is one of the ways that was originally suggested to spot a counterfeit. Merial, the manufacturer of Frontline, only sells to veterinarian offices. If you buy your Frontline from any other source, it may be a counterfeit product.
You can sometimes spot a counterfeit through the appearance of the blister pack that holds the applicators. An authentic US product will have a black & white blister pack with opening instructions. A blister pack with orange bars and/or foreign language indicates a counterfeit product.
Please visit the Merial website and EPA website for more information.
