eMailed eBook Security

Email Security for eBooks can be as simple as some simple steps that every author, publisher, and reseller should use! As a publisher, author, and reseller of eBooks, DataWorkZ has extensively looked into security for their eBooks and the process of emailing the eBooks. Here are several security tips on emailing download information and actual eBook attachments. While these tips won't keep you 100% safe, but it will help with eBook security!

  1. Mail your instructions, simple rules, and password in email #1, then email the attachments of the cover and/or the eBook itself or download link in the second email. What does this do? Prevents theft of the passwords through email, by keeping the eBook itself and the password separated. This also allows an email to reach your client/customer with an email stating to expect the eBook or download link in the forthcoming email. Often times the second email containing an attachment can cause the email not to be delivered for various reasons and with sending the first email, you have extablished contact, so that your client/customer knows you are trying to email them their purchase!

  2. State rules and instructions with the first email so that your clients/customers understand what they have purchased and what is expected of them. This will clear up additional response emails and your time so that you can devote it towards listing more products. If you have more rules within the eBook itself, then reference that and state the most important rules and instructions with the email that you send. Keep it short and sweet, but to the point!

  3. Never list your password for entry to the eBook itself on the download page or with the link. This way the eBook stays protected more and you won't have theft of that eBook without being paid!

  4. Send your emails with return receipt view, so that you know if your clients/customers have viewed the emails. All emails are coded with time and date stamps so that you can prove it to your client/customer that the email was sent in case there are any buyer problems.

  5. Keep a copy of all your emails sent, this will allow you to check for date and time stamps, who the email(s) were sent to, what email address the email was sent to, and verify a great many things you might need in the future.

  6. Always include the copyright of the eBook, eBook cover, and any other included items within the email. This will help to remind your client/customer that the eBook that you send is protected by law. Theft and copyright infractions are punishable in a court of law!

As we progress into the future, you will be seeing more eBooks with secure passwords. Help keep those eBooks protected more and yourself/company more, with the email security tips listed above. After all, shouldn't you be looking out for your investment? Print these handy tips out and use them today!

And best wishes to all publishers, authors, and resellers!
