SHIPPING LIVE PLANTS
After you have made the sale- the shipping is the most important job to insure a satisfide customer- You want the customer to be happy with the purchase and to buy from you again-
Dont just throw in a box- clean the plants- wash dirt from the roots and then the leaves., if you cant ship wet plants then clean them the evening before and let them dry- like bromeliads, orchids, cactus, and succulents-
Hard cleaning of plants after delivery can damage leaves, and scar them, even tear up the coming buds, Especially cactus plants- they are full of thorns, dry soil and perlite get hung up in the thorns and sometimes tweezers have to be used to remove all the caught soil-
After cleaning wrap the roots first, then wrap the plants in soft paper and place in box-
If shipping plants that will wilt in several days travel, wrap the roots in wet paper and place roots only- in a plastic baggie- if shipping water plants like lucky bamboo or cuttings to be rooted, place the end of plant in a small baggie and add water crystals, or wet paper- wrap the opening of the bag- next to the plant with a tie wrap to keep moisture in-
if shipping tillandsia ( airplants) the very best is live spanish moss for wrapping and placing between plants. If this is unavailable, use crumpled soft paper and wrap loose- dont break the leaves- bromeliads and tillandsia will not replace a broken leaf- they grow to maturity with the broken leaf, always there-
Shipping dirt is awful expensive- I ship all my plants bare root and clean- Tagging with the name is the next important thing-Try recieving a box full of plants with no tags-I have recently had this experience- It took me several hours to clean my plants and look back at the auctions to see what each one was-
Next important thing is planting, growing and propogating the plants- I am just starting my cactus collection- i need their names, growing info, light requirements etc.If you cant send info with the plants, please insert them in your descriptions of your items- If a person can get the plant to grow and do well, they will return and buy another-think about all this- It is not easy to be a power seller- you need those customers to return, and service is your best tool-
